Herman Construction Group, Inc. is honored that its president & CEO, Lars Herman, was selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as the Small Business Person of the Year for California and the San Diego District. Lars was further named second runner-up for the National Small Business Person of the Year award at the SBA national awards ceremony and reception in Washington, D.C. on May 1.
“Being recognized by the SBA is really an honor,” said Lars. “But these awards are more about Herman Construction’s employees and the great job they do, day in and day out, for our clients. The company’s success is built on their expertise, passion and drive to give 110 percent on every project!”
The President of the United States has paid tribute to America’s small businesses by instituting the National Small Business Week in 1963 to recognize the valuable contributions that small businesses make to the nation’s economy. In his speech at the awards ceremony, Vice President Mike Pence reasserted President Donald Trump’s declaration that “Small-business owners embody the American pioneering spirit, and remind us that determination can turn aspiration into achievement every day.”
“All of our winners have built very successful businesses through their hard work, innovative ideas and dedication to their employees and communities,” said Linda McMahon, Administrator of the SBA.
Winners were judged on criteria such as growth in sales and employees, business expansion, and contributions to local communities.
“You can’t imagine how humbled I feel after meeting with the other State awardees. I’m really part of an exceptional group of small business owners,” said Lars. “Starting a business is a huge challenge. We’ve been fortunate to have dedicated employees and business partners to help us get to where we are today. And I’m grateful for that.”
The National Small Business Week continues through May 6.
